Half-Giants are an oddity that were never meant to exist. A hybrid between Humans and Giantkin, these are far and above the sturdiest and strongest of the civilized races. Standing on average between 8'0 and 9'6, but some as tall as ten feet tall, and weighing between 300-400 pounds on average, these men and women are figurative goliaths.
Giants view them as lesser, or even as abominations. In the second era, Half-Giants were stricly banished from Giantkin territory, and may even be killed on sight should they be found there. Those views gradually shifted over time, and in the present-day Fourth Era, while they are still disliked, their presence is tolerated.
The view of their second half, the Humans, could not be more different. Humans view Half-Giants as valuable members of society, and prejudice against them, albeit present, is less common. They are frequently employed in the military or in construction and mining jobs--as well as general warehouse or dock work. Half-Giants in general happily flock to these sorts of jobs, mostly because they have a huge advantage over their human counterparts.
Although not forbidden from attending schools, in the early eras they likely would not be accepted to any of the more prestigious or private institutions.
Interestingly, despite their size, and the fact that they put on weight (both muscular and fat) faster than most other races, Half-Giants do not need to eat much more than a standard Human. This is owed to their Giantkin relatives, who evolved an astonishingly efficient metabolism to help deal with their unforgiving cold lands. They are also able to digest bones with ease, unlike Humans, which offers another potent source of nutrition.
Half-Giant culture is very mixed, and mostly intertwined with that of the Humans. A very scarce few Half-Giants have any notion of their Giantkin heritage, given that they were outcast from the Giants themselves. Meeting a Half-Giant who holds any sort of attachment to Giant culture is a true rarity.
For the most part, Half-Giants tend to lean slightly on the reclusive side, keeping to themselves. Some, however, fully embracing their Human roots, can be found in taverns, winning drinking competitions and having a jolly old time.
They typically get along very well with Dwarves, and some choose to live among the Dwarven settlements, or even their capital of Kharadun, as Half-Giants naturally prefer colder climates.
